Welcome to Sundays at Lark Rose, an in-depth round up of what goes on in my developing flower farm business for paid subscribers. I’m Olivia and this is all about Lark Rose, a flower farm in South Ayrshire near the West Coast of Scotland that I started in my back garden in 2021. I started developing an overgrown half-acre walled garden plot in 2023, and I’m learning every day how to run a tiny business. If you’re aspiring to start your own flower farm, are in the early stages of that journey, want week-by-week guidance for your flowers at home or are interested in the (often bumpy!) path of growing a business, this is for you.
This week
May! Blimey, April went very fast, and I have the feeling of being behind that always comes at this time of year. Luckily, with increasing light levels growth seems to catch up quickly now, and I’m still sowing, although the window is closing. Thank you so much to everyone who’s ordered plants, all the cliches about small business owners appreciating every order are completely true. (Details in last’s weeks post, or on IG story highlights!) I’ll be in touch this week with everyone who ordered to give you an idea of time scale, but everything’s growing away happily.
This week I also launched the Lark Rose Summer Sessions, a series where I’m going to try and grow the most cut flowers I can from each of three small beds (2 x 1m), to hopefully inspire and encourage you to grow some of your own flowers this year. If you’d like to join in, you just need to become a paid subscriber - it’s the price of a large coffee a month, and will also give you the full versions of these Sunday updates on the farm and business. It would be lovely to have you along with us.
Here’s what the flower farm looked like this week…
